7 Crucial elements you need to consider when deciding on a budget for your Landscaping design.
While Landscaping may seem costly, it can increase your home’s value by up to 10%-15% on average so it is an investment that pays off in the long run. There are a few considerations we do like our clients to be aware of and for some of our clients we feel the most expensive option is not always the best for them. When deciding on your landscaping budget here are a couple of things you might want to consider.
1) Is this your forever home or are you planning on staying for 5 years and then move to another house? You may find it unusual that this would be top of the list but for a moment I would like you to consider this scenario; you go all out and buy nothing but the very best of the best knowing full well you will be moving again in the next few years, essentially you have gone all out and blown the budget wide open only to have to repeat the process when you move.
2) How much traffic will specific areas of the space incur? It may be better to go with more durable and often more costly materials in these areas as they will have the most wear and tear. If you have children, pets or have a lot of gatherings in your garden it makes sense to budget a bit more to accommodate the extra wear.
3) Are you planning a complete redesign or just upgrading and renovating previous installations. If you are looking to completely change the layout or levels of the existing garden you will have to take this into account budget wise. As an example, if you need to move the driveway or outbuildings to a better location this will need a larger budget than simply redoing the fencing and drive.
4) To help you define your budget we suggest you create a list of wants vs needs, your needs will take priority and those wants may be negotiable, you might want an outdoor kitchen but to keep within budget a fire pit or built in barbeque might be more practical.
5) Consider having the work done in phases rather than all at once or perhaps look at having the work completed in the off season as the price of materials can vary greatly during the peak summer months.
6) Always leave a little leeway room in your budget, in other words don’t look to have every penny spent as you may decide you want to upgrade certain materials and leaving that extra leeway allows for a few changes.
7) Work with an experienced Landscaper that can help you decide on the best planning for your garden space, a deck or patio right outside your door sounds great but if its in an area that gets very little sun you might find the space does not get the intended use.
